Interior Stair Railing
This interior project adds a modern horizontal bar railing to the open side of a straight wood staircase and a slim matching handrail along the wall.

The Need
The open side of the staircase needed a guard. A horizontal bar design keeps the open treads visible and suits the clean lines of the space.
Design and Fabrication
- Horizontal bars running parallel to the stair angle
- Square posts at the bottom and along the stair stringer
- A slim top rail that doubles as the handrail
- Wall-mounted handrail on brackets along the opposite wall, in the same black finish
Installation
The railing was fabricated to the stair pitch and fixed along the stair, with the wall rail mounted on brackets so both sides can be held from bottom to top.
Result
A light, contemporary stair railing that keeps the staircase open and gives a handhold on both sides.
