Exterior Entrance Railing
This residential project wraps the open edges of a raised patio with a black metal picket railing and adds a matching handrail to the steps at the side of the platform.
The Need
The patio sits well above the yard, so its open edges and the steps leading up to it needed a guard and a handrail that would be used every day.
Design and Fabrication
- Vertical pickets between square posts, with a flat top rail
- Straight sections run along each open edge of the platform
- Posts are set along the platform edge, with corner posts where the railing turns
- A separate handrail on the side steps follows the stair angle and matches the patio railing's finish
Installation
The railing sections were measured to the platform, fabricated to fit and set on posts along the platform edge so the guard and step handrail read as one design.
Result
A clean, continuous black railing that frames the patio and gives a solid handhold on the steps.
